I thought it would be awesome for all of us to share our Guitar and Bass tones by posting up our FX chain and settings. This way we could all find new tones and get the one were each looking for and at the same time give feedback on how we can improve each others Guitar and bass tones Very Happy. Post sound clips of the tone you posted if you'd like Wink. Ill start first

I have a question/doubt or whatever you may call it.

To put it into words, lets imagine you double track your guitars with this same chain. One panned hard left and the other panned hard right. My question is, is it really imperative to "tweak" the amp settings to be different for each guitar track? or perhaps using different IR's for each track? all this in order to achieve a different but complemental guitar sound for the mix.

I'm asking this because i always use the same settings, i double track mis guitars when i record, but i usually use different IR's, but my amp settings remains the same for both tracks.

And i don't know if this a "correct" way to record my guitar tracks (even when i know there are no rules set in stone)

Any tips, advice, feedback, would be really appreciated.

By the way, this forum kicks major a**!!!!! Twisted Evil

First of all, welcome to our forum!

Now:
You can make some variations yes. Examples:

1) you can record with an ENGL 2 takes pan them hard left/hard right and 2 more takes with a MESA and pan them 80% L/R.
2) You can do the above with 1 take each and pan hard L/R.
3) You can record 2 takes with the same amp
4) You can keep or change the amp settings.
5) You can make EQ variations in mixing to taste, on all of the above.

Nothing is wrong if it sounds good. Very Happy

Hope I helped

Thanks a lot Sender!

Seems like it all comes down to experiment and stick with what works the best for each person.

quad tracking most 100% left/right and a slightly different impulse at 80% left/right.
Sometimes I cut 1-2 db from the added (80%) guitars and cut some midrange if needed in order the mix to breathe and have a slight, interesting variation.

Tubescreamer no gain, only tone to taste.

Most of the times all 4 takes are the same settings including the impulses.
But I like to experiment so... Wink

For quad-tracking, you have to be so "precise" not to cause minimalistic phase issues :yeah: i'd recommend it for more slow rhythmed songs Wink
